POLICE have charged a 35-year-old Californian man with 'using cats a food source' after reports that pets were being skinned and eaten alive.
Officers were called to a house in Oildale, California, after neighbours said that they had heard sounds of a shrieking cat.
The Sun newspaper reported Joe Nuno as saying: “I heard a cat cry, it was a weird cry, real loud.
“I smelled cooking. It smelled like some awful meat.
“A deputy told me that he had been skinning cats alive and eating them.
“The cop said, 'Well, you know what, there's some strange things in that house. And, yeah, he's eating animals.'”
Jason Louis Wilmert, 35, is due in court on Friday, February 17.
He has pleaded not guilty to two charges of cruelty to animals and using pets as food.
Supervising Deputy District Attorney Michael Yraceburn refused to comment on the case but confirmed Wilmert was being prosecuted for using cats as a food source.
