POLICE in Florida have charged a man with hacking emails and stealing compromising photographs of as many as 50 celebrities, including Scarlett Johansson.
The arrest came after naked pictures of the actress Scarlett Johansson appeared on the internet after reportedly being taken from her mobile phone by hackers.
Private pictures or videos have also been hacked from devices belonging to the actresses Miley Cyru, Vanessa Hudgens, and Mila Kunis.
The FBI have named the man they arrested as Christopher Chaney of Jacksonville, Florida.
He is accused of hacking Google, Apple and Yahoo email accounts, hacking the forwarding feature so that a copy of every email received by victims was sent virtually instantaneously to an account he controlled. An indictment said there were more than 50 victims and an FBI spokesman confirmed Miss Johansson was among them. Chaney is charged with 25 counts of identity theft, unauthorised access and unauthorised damage to a protected computer. He allegedly offered some of the hacked material, including photographs, to websites and some of it was said to have been posted.
His arrest is the first arrest in a year long investigation called Operation Hackerazzi.
