PSYCHOLOGY students have analysed 1000s of Facebook photographs to explain exactly what messages your picture is sending out to the world.
The unsettling conclusions highlight a series of Facebook picture clichés, from the busty girl parading her cleavage to the moody out of focus boy.
And the hilarious findings show that the messages we think we are conveying with our images are often the polar opposite to those actually being received by other Facebook users.
The findings of the students at Riihimäki University, in Finland, included:
The extreme close-up shot – used to disguise the fact that the Facebook user is fat.
The awkwardly-angled cleavage shot - used to disguise the fact that the Facebook user is fat.
The Photoshopped / blurred-out black and white shot - used to disguise the fact that the Facebook user is fat.
