A SUSPECTED burglar is believed to have beedavid-cameronn stabbed to death as he broke in – just two days after David Cameron pledged to strengthen the right of home-owners to defend their property.

The alleged intruder is said to have been part of a balaclava-clad gang trying to break into a house in Salford, Greater Manchester.

The 26-year-old died from fatal knife wounds after he was dragged from the house.

The householder and his son are believed to have been arrested along with a woman.

Just two days ago Prime Minister David Cameron promised to support home-owners defending against intruders.

He said: “We will put beyond doubt that home-owners and small shopkeepers who use reasonable force to defend themselves or their properties will not be prosecuted.”

The death in Manchester could now become a test case for the proposed changes to the law.

Salford Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent Kevin Mulligan said: “Clearly this is a shocking incident and a man has lost his life.

“However, I can reassure the community that we will thoroughly investigate what happened last night and do not believe that members of the public are at risk.

“I would urge anyone who knows something to speak to officers from the major incident team and anyone else who has other concerns can speak to my officers, who will be providing an increased presence to provide the community with reassurance.”

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said three people had been arrested and were being held on suspicion of attempted murder.

A spokeswoman said: “'Police are investigating after a man died in Salford.

“'Just before midnight, police were called to an address on Ethel Avenue, Pendlebury, following reports of a burglary and a group of men carrying an injured man on to Hospital Road.

“'On arrival at Hospital Road, police found a 26-year-old man with stab wounds.

“'He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“'Two men and a woman have been arrested and remain in police custody.”
