TGerman-ShepherdWO police dogs died after being left in a locked car outside the force's dog training centre while  temperatures soared across Britain yesterday.

The dogs, a Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd were discovered at London's Metropolitan Polce Dog Training Centre in Keston, Kent.

Temperatures outside had reached 29C and all the windows were shut. Experts said the heat inside the vehicle may have been approaching double that.

The dogs were treated by a vet but later died.

An inquiry has been launched by Scotland Yard .

A police source told The Sun newspaper: “It was a horrible way to die. They literally boiled to death.

“Everyone is terribly upset about what has happened.”

The officer involved was said to be 'distraught' at their deaths.

A spokeswoman from the Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity, said: “It can take just 20 minutes for a dog to die and temperatures can reach over 40 degrees in some vehicles.”
