Agrizzly-bear KILLER grizzly bear has mauled to death a hiker at Yellowstone National Park.

The man, who was walking with his wife, is believed to have been attacked when he came across the female bear and her cubs.

A spokesman for Yellowstone National Park said: “In an apparent attempt to defend a perceived threat to her cubs, the bear attacked and fatally wounded the man.”

The bear struck on the Wapiti Lake Trail, close to Canyon Village.

It is the first fatal bear attack in the US park since 1986.

Spokesman Al Nash said: “This is complicated because of where this has occurred.

“It is in the backcountry of the park, and we have access challenges and limited communication.”

Park officials were working to clear the area of other hikers bet there were no plans to exterminate the bear.
