Milly-DowlerTHE PARENTS of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler, who was the target of sickening News of the World phone hacking, have demanded that News International boss Rebekah Brooks resign.

They said that Mrs Brooks was editor of the News of the World at the time Milly disappeared, and that she should “do the honourable thing” and step down from her role as chief executive of News International.

The family spoke out after meeting Nick Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister, at Downing Street as questions were raised about how long Surrey Police had known about the phone hacking.

Mark Lewis, the Dowler family lawyer, said his clients did not understand why Brooks should keep her job and added: “They see this as something that went right to the top.

“She was editor of the News of the World at the time that Milly was taken in 2002. She should take editorial responsibility.”
