Libyan soldiers given sex drugs for mass rape of anti-Gaddafi demonstrators

Gaddafi-2MASS rape is being used as a weapon by troops loyal to Colonel Gaddafi, who is supplying his men with a Viagara-type sex drug, it was claimed today.

The horrific allegation that Libyan servicemen are being ordered to brutalise women came from the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.

Luis Moreno-Ocampo said witnesses claimed the Libyan government was buying huge amounts of generic sex drugs to help implement the policy.

ICC judges are currently considering Moreno-Ocampo’s request for arrest warrants against Gaddafi and his son Saif al-Islam on charges of crimes against humanity, but now charges of mass rape may also be brought.

Moreno-Ocampo, said new information indicated that Gaddafi had authorised using rapes as a military strategy.

He added: "The rape is a new aspect of the repression. Apparently, he has decided to punish using rapes."

The prosecutor said it was difficult to know how widespread such rapes were but he had received information there were several hundred victims in some areas.

UK Defence Secretary Liam Fox said he believes there is "serious evidence" behind the claims.

But Moussa Ibrahim, the Libyan government's spokesman, said: "It's the same old nonsense. We have always asked, time and again, for people to come on the ground and investigate all accusations against us.”

Viagara manufacturers Pfizer stopped shipping all products to Libya in February, when sanctions were implemented by the international community.
