Amanda Knox cleared of murder

amanda-knoxAMERICAN Amanda Knox could pocket more than $1 million after being sensationally released from prison when an appeal court overturned her murder conviction tonight.



The Italian courtroom erupted in chaos as Knox's family and friends screamed with joy at the decision.

The 24-year-old American served four years of a 26-year prison sentence after being found guilty in 2009 of the brutal sex murder of Meredith Kercher.

Kercher, 21, who was found semi naked with her throat cut in her bedroom of the house she shared in Perugia, Italy.

Knox now stands to walk away a rich woman thanks to the US TV networks who have been frantically trying to secure rights to her first interview.

As the verdict was announced Knox, 24, hugged her parents Curt and Edda Mellas.

Close by, the family of Meredith Kercher looked on stunned.

Computer studies graduate Raffaele Sollecito, 27, her ex lover who had also been accused of carrying out the murder with her was also freed.

The decision of judge Claudio Pratillo means further heartache for the Kercher family who now  have no clear picture of what happened to their daughter.
