world-cup-1966THREE German soccer stars who played in a World Cup Final against England were on drugs, it was reported today.

The stars were part of the team which famously lost 4-2 to England in 1966 – and all three failed a drugs test.

According to the Sun newspaper a newly-discovered letter from FIFA's then medical chief confirmed that the unnamed players tested positive for banned stimulant ephedrine.

The sensational results remained a secret for 45 years until the letter was found by historians at Berlin's Humboldt University.

Last night one of the players in the 1966 England team George Cohen said: “I am astounded... I always wondered where they got their energy from in extra-time!”
