US style Drunk Tanks coming to UK to tackle boozed up yobs

drunk-tankUS style 'Drunk Tanks, where sozzled yobs would be held by police until sober, are to be introduced to Britain.

Prime Minister David Cameron is to announce a plan that would see drunks hauled off the street by police and put in cells until dawn.  

Drunk Tanks, made famous in the Pogues Christmas song Fairytale of New York, are  one of a range anti drunkeness measures.

Alcohol-fuelled problems cost the NHS £2.7billion a year.  

Other ideas include the use of "booze buses" — ambulances which pick up drunks and treat them on board.

Drunk Tanks are used in America and Europe as a way of stopping hospitals getting swamped by people who have drunk too much.
