A FURIOUS tenant facing eviction from his home turned on his taps in the depths of the Chinese winter to create an incredible home-made glacier.
The 20ft thick wall of ice was intended to highlight the aggressive moves by property developers to kick out the tenants of a tower block to make way for a new shopping complex.
Long time resident Wen Hsu, who had lived on the seventh floor of the property at Jilin city in north-eastern China for 35 years, refused to budge but, facing a forced-eviction, took the drastic measure.
And it worked. The other residents had moved out so the 58-year-old’s homemade waterfall harmed no-one, but it has managed to draw attention to his case in China’s national media.
Local council officials are now urging the developers to settle the matter and pay Mr Hsu a substantial sum so the project can go ahead.
Mr Hsu said: “The weather is warmer now but I think it might take a while for the waterfall to melt.
“In any case, I understand the developers may be prepared to make me a better offer now, I hope so. It is very lonely here with nobody else around.”
